There must be lights burning brighter somewhere Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue If I can dream of a better land Where all my brothers walk hand in hand Tell me why, oh why, oh why can\'t my dream come true
There must be peace and understanding sometime Strong winds of promise that will blow away All the doubt and fear If I can dream of a warmer sun Where hope keeps shining on everyone Tell me why, oh why, oh why won\'t that sun appear
We\'re lost in a cloud With too much rain We\'re trapped in a world That\'s troubled with pain
But as long as a man Has the strength to dream He can redeem his soul and fly
Deep in my heart there\'s a trembling question Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow Out there in the dark, there\'s a beckoning candle
And while I can think, while I can talk While I can stand, while I can walk While I can dream, please let my dream
Come true, right now
Let it come true right now

A modified fortune teller machine with Mr. Elvis Presley dishing out the predictions in a gift shop. Another gift shop had a Willie Nelson one (which I preferred), but they were strict about no picture taking for some reason.

A great view of Municipal Auditorium, from a landing about half way up on the second level, near the stairs leading to the projection booth.

The Hank Williams memorabilia display case at Shreveport's Municipal Auditorium. Williams made frequent appearances on the Louisiana Hayride, which was broadcast from the historic building. There are 8-10 such display cases at Municipal Auditorium, including tributes to artists ranging from Elvis Presley and Lead Belly to Claude King and the Bailes Brothers.

One of many fun (and historic) messages scribbled on the walls of the projection booth at Municipal Auditorium. This message says that the spotlight used at the Municipal would have been a great one in 1903, but is badly outdated at the time this message is being written - 1967.

One can only imagine the kind of performance this must have been: The N.A.A.C.P. Shreveport Soul Festival in 1969.

The view from the stage of Shreveport's Municipal Auditorium. A view like this - only the seats would have been full - must have greeted a young Elvis Presley in October 1954, as he took the cue from Hayride announcer Frank Page and launched into "That's Alright Mama." Neither The Louisiana Hayride nor American pop culture would ever be the same.
